Step 4 - Field Mapping (Total Import Pro For OpenCart)

TIP-Step4.PNG

Field Mapping

Field mapping allows you to match your field names or headings to be imported to OpenCart’s available fields.  The CSV column headings or the XML tag names do not have to match OpenCart’s fields.

 Also, there is no minimum number of fields that must be inputted, so any or all fields can be left blank—these fields will be given sensible default values in each product where required.

 If you wish to deliberately overwrite a field to a null value (for example, you wish to remove the special price of the products), reference a field that is empty in your file.  This way the module will import the empty value as the new special price and thus ‘delete’ the existing special price.

Product Status: This takes a binary value 0/1 but can also handle disabled/no/off and will treat other values as 1

Category:  Products can be imported with nested categories (e.g., “Computers > Desktop”); add sub-category fields by clicking the More è button and adding a vertical column. Multiple categories can be added for products by selecting the More ê button creating another row.  This allows products to belong to more than one category (e.g. “DVDs” and “Digital files”)

Attribute:  Product attributes can be imported—reference the attribute’s name (e.g., from the example in the “XML Format”, enter “type” without quotation marks). The field name will be used for the Attribute name, and the value in the field for each product will be used for the Attribute value.

If you wish to import a particular attribute structure you can do this by using a ':' separated list in your attribute field. This is then imported as '<group_name>:<attribute_name>:<attribute_value>' and creates the appropriate attribute group, attribute name and attribute value.

Options: Product options can be imported – see the section below on Product Options for the exact requirements for successful import. Use the More button to add multiple product options.

Image: This field takes the path to an image on your server. E.g 'data/image.jpg'. If you enabled 'Download Remote Images' in Step 2 this field can also take a URL to the location of the image.

Additional Images: Additional images can be imported – simply reference the field, using the More button to add multiple additional image fields.

    It is not explicitly explained here whether I can use child tags in an xml file to define multiple categories or attributes or options to a product. Such as

    <products>

    <prodcut>

          <sku>1</sku>

           <categories>

                     <category>Computers>Power Supply</category>

                     <category>Electronics>Power Supply</category>

            <categories>

    </product>

    </products>

    Hey Msutas,

    Here is an example:

    <product>

    <name>Test 1</name>

    <price>$1,000.00</price>

    <childlist>

    <child>Value1</child>

    <child>Value2</child>

    <child>Value3</child>

    </childlist>

    </product>

    Multiple child values come through in the importer as "Value1^Value2^Value3"

    In Step3 you can use the Operation: 'Split Any Field' to split 'Child' on ^. This will give you one column for each 'child' value that you can then use.

    In your case. In Step2, set the category delimiter to >. Then in Step 3, add the Operation:  'Split Any Field' to split 'category' on ^

    Finally in Step 4. Map each of the new split fields (can be seen in the sample data) as their own category, using the down arrow to map multiple categories.

    Thank you for the excellent question =)

    Hi there, that is an excellent question. Any field you leave blank will not be affected by the import tool. So you can update only specific fields as long as you can identify the product. For example if using CSV:

    sku,price,quantity

    1234, 10.00, 20

    Will allow you to map sku->model and/or sku, as the identifier of existing products. You can then map price -> price, and quantity -> quantity, and leave all other fields un-mapped. This will update only the price and quantity fields of products with the matching sku.

    Hi,

    I'm using Import mainly for importing attributes to my products. Sometime I just want to update the attributes or ad a new one to a group of products.

    It looks that hen the import is done it wipes out all the attributes and replaces them with the new ones. Please let me know how I can do to only add 1 attribute to existing products with existing attributes.

    Thanks,

    Daniel
